While most of the world’s popular spices were introduced by explorers and colonists, such as chili peppers from South America and cumin from the Eastern Mediterranean, turmeric is native to India. Since ancient times, turmeric has grown wild in the forests of South and Southeast Asia, one of the main ingredients in many Asian dishes. Turmeric is considered very versatile, sacred, noble, and auspicious in Tamil Nadu. In Indian culture and religion, turmeric is much more significant than a typical kitchen spice. In many Hindu communities, turmeric is used in holidays such as weddings with the meaning of symbolizing the birth of offspring and prosperous families.
In Vietnam, turmeric is grown mainly in Bac Kan – where the soil climate is excellent, producing different quality turmeric with high curcumin content. At Vinasamex, the organic art area is built and developed according to international standards.
